The Building Surveyor Cadet provides support to the members of the Development & Regulatory team while undertaking studies to achieve Accredited Professional – Building Level 2 accreditation under the Planning, Development & Infrastructure Act Accreditation Scheme. The role focuses on the development of knowledge and skills related to the development and Building Rules and consent functions in accordance with the Planning Development & Infrastructure Act, National Construction Code (NCC) of Australia, associated building standards, Council Policy, and other relevant statutory requirements
While working under the supervision of the Building Surveyor
In this role you will build your technical skills to differentiate all building classes
Communicate with private certifiers such as the Country Fire Services and other stakeholders.
Assist with early-stage preliminary building advice.
Develop skills to prepare draft reports and recommendations as required for Development Applications, compliance inspections, Building Fire Safety Committee, and other related matters.
Assist with investigating complaints, including gathering and documenting evidence.
Learn how to identify non-compliant building work and communicate the required standards.
You will also build on your professional development and complete on-the-job training. WRC may also provide financial support and assistance including study leave.
We are looking for someone with:
The Ability to enroll in a course eligible for Building Level 2 accreditation under the Planning, Development & Infrastructure Act Accreditation Scheme. This may require:
Completion of year 12 and have an Australian Senior Secondary Certificate of Education; or
A qualification (delivered in English) at Level 4 or above in the Australian Qualifications Framework that was awarded to you; Or
Complete an approved language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) assessment and display competence at or above Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF) in both literacy and numeracy.
Organisational skills and attention to detail
Ability to read and comprehend complex documents such as legislation
Ability to read and interpret plans and drawings
Demonstrated ability to represent Council in a professional manner.
Ability to work as a team member and autonomously.
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
Basic computer skills, including word processing.
An attractive remuneration package in the range of $65,903 - $71,195 is on offer based on experience, plus 10.5% superannuation. This position is full-time and entitled to a rostered day off each month.
