The Senior Planning Officer works within the Development Team will be responsible for Managing Council’s Planning Assessment requirements under the PDI Act including taking on the role and functions of an Assessment Manager for the Regional Assessment Panel (RAP) as required. Ensure that the planning assessment, approval and control function within the Wattle Range Council is carried out in accordance with Council’s relevant current legislation, codes and standards and delegations and Oversee strategic planning for Council including code amendments, community town plans and public infrastructure.
The key areas of this role include:
The management of the e-planning system and ensuring all staff are trained and competent in using the system and troubleshooting the system and the supervision, mentorship, guidance and training of other planning staff and graduate planners;
Lead Planning staff to manage compliance ensuring all development is undertaken and maintained in accordance with the relevant approval, and investigate and resolve alleged breaches of consent and/or non-compliance;
Provide advice and technical expertise to Council, the public and external parties in a professional manner;
Communicate effectively and in a timely manner with the Development Services team, customer services staff, wider Council, the Council / Regional Assessment Panel, any other Councils apartied to a Regional Assessment Panel MOU and the general public;
Provide planning recommendations and reports to enable Council to make decisions shaping the future direction of the region.
We are looking for someone with:
Bachelor/Master of Urban and Regional Planning or equivalent – Level 1 accreditation;
Demonstrated 5 years experience as a Planner;
A thorough knowledge, understanding and experience with South Australia planning and development processes and planning instruments;
Demonstrated experience in compliance and enforcement;
Proven ability to manage and supervise staff;
A high level of professional skills, competence, knowledge and judgement with a customer service focus;
Ability to operate professionally within the local community and represent Council’s interests with Government Departments and other relevant outside organisations;
Demonstrated ability to be a professional, active and effective member of a team;
Full or a part membership of the Planning Institute of Australia;
Current Drivers Licence.
An attractive remuneration package in the range of $97,278 – $102,864 is on offer based on experience, plus 10.5% superannuation. This position is full time and entitled to a rostered day off every 4 weeks.
