Manager Assets and Environment

Reporting to the Director Engineering Services, The Manager Assets and Environment ensures that all functions of the unit are performed efficiently, effectively and within budget, to ensure that Council meets all statutory requirements within the scope of the unit.

This role is structured by two specific components: 

  • The Assets component includes the development and update of Asset Management Plans, maintaining Council’s Asset Register and end of financial year processing, developing policies for engineering services, engineering design, tendering and contract management, building services and general engineering services support. 
  • The Environmental component manages and provides leadership in Council’s waste services, cleaning services, Community Wastewater Management Systems, coastal protection and environmental programs.

The Manager of Assets and Environment will also assist the Director Engineering Services in the development of appropriate short and long term plans and the development of effective implementation strategies. Monitor the implementation of Council’s Strategic Plan and other plans (as they relate to the operation of the Assets and Environment Unit) and to ensure that required outcomes are achieved or that suitable and timely modifications are made to the plans or recommended to Council.

The role also provides professional management and leadership for all employees engaged within the Assets & Environment Department. Manages the preparation and regular review of the Asset Management Policy and Strategy. Also, manages and prepares scope, costings, procurement, delivery, reporting and evaluation for capital works projects in accordance with Council policies, procedures and legislative requirements.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • A recognised degree Bachelor (or Diploma) in Environmental, Science or Engineering
  • Demonstrated effective management and leadership skills
  • Ability to apply sound judgment 
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with the Council, as part of the management team and with the local community
  • SA Drivers Licence (or equivalent)
  • Experience in Asset Management
  • Competent in use of all MS Office System

This position is full time and will entail a salary range based on Level 8 General Officer of $106,215 - $112,919 (FTE) per annum which may be negotiated, dependent on the qualifications and experience of the applicant. This position is entitled to a rostered day off each month and is located in Millicent, South Australia. A vehicle will be supplied for partial private use.
